Lactobacillus plantarum organisms form a protective biofilm on the mucous membrane of the urogenital system and begin to produce special substances that destroy pathogens. Unlike other types of lactobacilli, these strains can survive and be active even in the presence of high concentrations of antibiotics used to treat cystitis and pyelonephritis, so they are fully compatible with standard therapy.
